A Little About Newport, Rhode Island
Founded in 1639, the city of Newport is located in Newport County, Rhode Island, at the southern tip of Aquidneck Island, and is bounded by Middletown to the north and three bodies of water: Narragansett Bay to the west; Sakonnet River to the east; and Rhode Island Sound to the south.

Preservation Society of Newport County
Preserving and protecting architectural gems that span over 250 years of Newport’s history. The Society’s 11 properties are open to the public and are the backdrop for a wonderful assortment of events all year round.
Redwood Library and Athenaeum
Established in 1747, the Redwood Library and Athenaem is the oldest lending library in America. The library boasts an impressive collection of rare books and paintings dating back to the 1600’s.
National Museum of American Illustration
Boasting a collection that includes original art works by Maxfield Parrish, Norman Rockwell and N.C. Wyeth. The museum is housed at Vernon Court, a grand Bellevue Avenue estate.
Beavertail Lighthouse
Built in the 19th century and located in Jamestown, Beavertail Lighthouse is the third oldest lighthouse on the Atlantic seacoast. Featuring panoramic views of Narragansett Bay and ample walking paths.
International Yacht Restoration School
Dedicated to education and maritime preservation, IYRS is located in the historic Aquidneck Mill Building. Visitors will see classic sailboats in various stages of restoration.
Museum of Newport History
Located in Newport’s 1762 Brick Market on historic Washington Square. The museum uses the finest of decorative arts, artifacts of everyday life, graphics, historic photographs, and audio-visual programs to tell Newport’s story.
Newport Art Museum

International Tennis Hall of Fame

Newport Gulls Baseball
Playing at historic Cardines Field from June to Mid-August, the Newport Gulls compete in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Their team roster consists of top college-level players.
